Michelin Star Chef in Cancun - Joan Roca

Presented by Palace Resorts

By Clarissa Buch

If you're fishing for a reason to visit Mexico this spring, listen up. Spain's Michelin-starred chef Joan Roca is partnering with BBVA Bancomer and will travel to the Yucatán Peninsula to host a unique two-night culinary experience exclusively at Moon Palace Cancun, a luxurious five-star all-inclusive resort. That means you'll have a chance to taste his award-winning cuisine without needing a plane ticket to Spain.

Roca is best known for owning Spain's celebrated El Celler de Can Roca, in Girona, Spain, which earned the title of best restaurant in the world by Restaurant Magazine in 2013 and 2015. It has also consistently ranked among the top five on Restaurant Magazine's World's 50 Best Restaurants list since 2009.

The Catalan chef will host the dinners on May 8 and 9, benefitting the rebuilding of schools in Mexico City that were destroyed during the country's recent natural disasters.

"I am so excited to bring the El Celler de Can Roca experience to Moon Palace Cancun," said chef Joan Roca. "The ability to help rebuild after last year's earthquakes in Mexico City is very special to me and an initiative that I hold dear to my heart."

In partnership with the Palace Foundation, the two-night event showcases Palace's philanthropic commitment as well as the brand's dedication to offering unparalleled food and drink experiences for guests.

"Bringing the El Celler de Can Roca experience to Moon Palace Cancun is a testament to our commitment to bring guests unique culinary experiences, in this case, the greatest restaurant in the world, while at the same time giving back for the greater good to our communities that so desperately need it after tragedy strikes," said Jabib Chapur, Vice President of Food & Beverage for Palace Resorts.

This isn't the first time Palace Resorts' Moon Palace Cancun has brought the magic of the culinary world to Cancun. In 2017, the brand announced a partnership with Certified Angus Beef®, making it the first and only hotel chain in Cancun to offer the highest quality of beef at all ten of its properties located in Mexico and Jamaica.

More recently, Palace announced a  partnership with world-renowned pastry chef, Antonio Bachour. Named one of the ten best pastry chefs in America, Bachour now offers a selection of his prize-winning desserts at all of Palace's oceanfront properties. Palace also runs its own cooking school and pastry shop. Here, chefs have access to ongoing educational seminars, additional training, and can stay up to date on the latest culinary trends.

Roca's El Celler de Can Roca Experience will take place at the newly renovated, "La Trattoria," located on the Jack Nicklaus golf course at Moon Palace Cancun, on May 8 and 9, 2018.  The event will kick off with a welcome cocktail at 8 p.m., where guests will have the opportunity to mingle with Roca. Ticket prices are $750 ($ 14,500 MXN) per person. The dress code is formal attire and will be strictly enforced.
